The Changing eCommerce Trends: In Conversation with Ihor Furseyev
Every industry and business has to change with changing consumer expectations, and eCommerce is no different. If you want to grow and scale your online business in this new normal, you have to keep up with the pace and evolve as the industry is evolving.
To find out what can help you secure an edge over competitors in this highly competitive world, we will talk to Ihor Furseyev, an eCommerce expert and certified developer. So, let’s get started.
Who did we interview?
Ihor Furseyev is Head of Engineering at Atwix – a full-service Magento agency. Having around ten years of experience in the eCommerce domain, Ihor is also a certified Magento developer who helps businesses develop growth-oriented solutions.
Q1: What exciting projects are you working on right now?
We are about to launch an Adobe Commerce Cloud store with the PWA storefront. The project is challenging, but our team is determined to deliver the best.
Q2: What potential do you see for the eCommerce industry as a whole?
eCommerce is growing fast, and online sales share in lots of markets is rapidly growing. That also makes a lot of businesses go online. We see a vast growth of B2B and D2C share here. The first means that even most conservative businesses go online; the second gives much diversity.
Also, we see that former standalone e-shops are getting more and more integrated with businesses. They aren’t sidekicks any longer but are a part of logistics, accounting, etc.
Q3: What’s the biggest change you’ve seen in post-pandemic eCommerce trends?
At the start of the pandemic, we noticed that some businesses tried to reduce their expenses overall because they were scared of being closed. But soon enough (I think in April-May 2020), they actually started to invest more in eCommerce development.
Today, we can see even small-scale businesses investing in technologies like headless commerce, PWA, and AI/ML to serve the best experience to customers. I would say after the pandemic, eCommerce is now more about consumers and quality experiences.
Q4: What industries do you think will take the biggest piece of the pie due to this surge in eCommerce?
Well, pandemic restrictions are getting down, and we’ve almost returned to pre-COVID times in terms of how people act, so I can’t tell for sure. I am not a Marketologist. People simply learned to buy online even more.
Q5: Any specific technology trend where store owners should consider investing?
I think we are almost at the point where the frontend will be separated from the backend of the e-commerce store. The backend will be (and already is in lots of cases) the part of a business’s ecosystem (ERP, PIM, CRM, etc.) while the frontend moves towards PWA trends. The end customer won’t differentiate the mobile application from the website soon in terms of user experience. Also, as the frontend separates from the backend, I can see a trend and a future for those frontends to be separate products and be platform-agnostic.
